John Cruickshank is an operational CFO with 30 years’ experience and the proven ability to position companies for long-term growth and profitability. He has international and domestic public company, private equity, family company, and turnaround experience, and has worked in the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, and the USA. He has also carried out multiple, world-wide international assignments. John joined Cortland Advisors in 2024.

John operates as a strategic partner to the CEO and possesses strong change management skills. He has extensive experience in strategic planning, financing, acquisitions, and divestitures, with a background in consumer products, manufacturing, processing, distribution, services, and B2B/B2C. He has been a Board member of several public and private companies.

As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (C.A.), John is a CPA equivalent, who began his career with the “Big Four” firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Edinburgh, Scotland.

John brings a strong internal control background having been the Chief Internal Auditor for a large public company. In addition to his broad experience in Finance & Administration, John is familiar with the Information Technology and Human Resource functions, and was heavily involved in all operational areas of the business including Supply Chain, Logistics, Sales & Marketing, B2B, B2C, Manufacturing, and Distribution.

John is the President and Principal Consultant of Level One Consulting, which provides interim and fractional CFO services to a wide range of clients. He is also a Partner in Florida CFO Group, one of the most respected and well-connected professional services providers of outsourced CFOs in the State. He is a member of Financial Executives International (FEI) and Chartered Accountants Worldwide.
