Marylean Abney is a Senior Executive, seasoned CFO and COO with over 35 years of success in Corporate America, private industry, and startups. Throughout her career, she has been recognized as an influential leader, sponsor, mentor, and team player with the ability to drive superior results with diverse teams.
Currently she is a partner in the prestigious Florida CFO Group, one of the most respected and well-connected professional services providers of outsourced CFOs in the state.
She has demonstrated extreme success in helping corporations and small and medium-sized businesses solve problems from profit improvement to growing the company to development and deployment of strategy. As CFO of Caterpillar’s $3Billion Compact Power Systems Business Segment, she led the business turnaround to optimize pricing, cut overhead, exceed financial targets, and take advantage of the tax loss carryforward inherited with the acquisition of Perkins Engines in England. As Senior Strategy Executive at United States Steel, she led an operational excellence initiative that delivered half a billion-dollar savings in one year. As CFO and COO of Purtec, Inc., she led the delivery of investor expectations for signed customer contracts for one million square feet of coverage.
Marylean worked for Caterpillar Inc. for over 30 years and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Executive and CFO for multiple $Billion+ business segments. After Caterpillar, the CEO of U.S. Steel sought her out to lead the development, communication, and execution of a new strategy. In 2020, she became CFO and COO for Purtec, Inc., a cybernetic purification startup in Las Vegas and in February 2022 she became a Sr. Strategy and Operations Advisor for Xos Inc., a leading manufacturer of fully electric, zero-emission commercial vehicles.
Marylean holds a B.S. degree from Illinois State University and an MBA from the University of Illinois. She is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). A seasoned Board member, she currently serves as Board member, Treasurer and Finance Committee chair for Eureka College Board of Trustees (President Ronald Reagan’s alma mater), Board Member and Nominating and Governance Committee Chair for Genesys Works National organization. She has also served as President, Chairman and Committee Chairs for multiple nonprofits over 30 years.
Marylean lives in Tamarac Florida with her husband and travels to Chicago periodically to visit her granddaughter, Ava.
